Little known fact: the etymology of the use of the word “not” to completely reverse the meaning of a sentence when added as a suffix to said sentence actually dates back to 15th century Britain. “Forget me. Not!” was often said by wives and girlfriends to their men, members of the merchant navy, before they headed to sea. This was often accompanied by the giving of a blue flower. The name of the flower and the usage of the word dates back to these ancient maritime traditions.

The above may or may not be true. I haven’t had a chance to thoroughly research it.
