This shot, to me, is a testament to why it’s always a good idea to let other people judge your photos. I never really thought that much about it, but whilst doing an ego search on Google last week I discovered that it had been picked up on and reposted by a few tumblogs back in September, when I had first posted it to Flickr, starting with this one. The most poetic response, however, is this one from ‘Sparrow Numph’: “I would gladly hold you close and comfort you. A man who cries at a book, and in public too… marry me?”

This is an angle that simply never occurred to me, and would never have, if I had not stumbled across that post last week. It’s an interesting feeling, knowing someone feels stronger about one of your photos than you do.

The post has since been liked or beblogged by Tumblr users 240 times since it was posted, making it one of my most successful images. Quite unexpected, and I have no idea how they found it in the first place.

For anyone interested, the book he’s reading is “The Junior Officers’ Reading Club” by Patrick Hennessey.
